Hastings resident, 1st Sgt. Edward "Ed" James Lacy (Retired), 82, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska with his family by his side.

Rosary will be Monday, October 27, 2014; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 28, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial with military rites by United States Army, Ft. Riley, Kansas and Hastings Veterans Organizations will be at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you give a donation to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., Sunday, October 26, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., and Monday, October 27, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Ed was born August 4, 1932 in Rose, Nebraska to Lyles & Rosa (Lillianthal) Lacy. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1950. Ed enlisted with the Nebraska National Guard. On January 12, 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three tours in Korea and one in Vietnam; he was honorably discharged on January 31, 1975. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Marie Gerritsen on May 22, 1954 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska. The family moved several times over the years while Ed was in the service. Upon his retirement from the service, Ed was employed at Uniservice, Eastman House, Island Supply, and Bob Sass. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Adams County Burial Detail, Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, his coffee buddies at McDonalds, attending events for the grandchildren, and spending time with his beloved dogs Jenny and Gabby.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; one brother-in-law; and his beloved dog, Jenny.
