A. Maybelle Sommer was born August 19, 1918 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Joe & Flora (Johnston) Russell. She graduated from El Reno High School in 1939. She lived in El Reno, Oklahoma until 1972 when she moved to California. In 1994, she moved to Hastings, Nebraska.

A. Maybelle Sommer was preceded in death by her parents.
