Hastings resident, Agnes G. Anderson, 103, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday, March 28, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to The Chester and Agnes Anderson College Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, or to the Eastern Star Children's Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013; 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. and Wednesday, March 27, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Agnes Lida Marie (Gasch) Anderson, the daughter of Frank Gasch and Adah (Maxfield) Gasch, was born September 14, 1909 and died March 24, 2013. Agnes was born north of Juniata on a farm. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1926 and graduated cum laude from Hastings College in 1933. She received an assistantship at Syracuse University where she was head of a woman's dormitory. After receiving her Masters in Counseling at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York in 1941, she was woman's counselor at the Hendricks Chapel. Agnes and Chester E. Anderson were married May 1, 1943 in Lincoln, Nebraska; he preceded her in death on May 4, 1990. They had three daughters, Barbara, Dorothy, and Elaine. Agnes and Chester farmed near Pauline and lived in their home in Hastings during the winters. Agnes taught for 31 years, the last 20 years she taught English but mostly Latin at Hastings Middle School and High School. She was an active 91 year member of the First United Methodist Church and the church circle groups; PEO Chapter FH; member and Past Matron of the Acacia Chapter #39 of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers sorority; and she volunteered at the Hastings Museum for over 25 years. She will be remembered for her love of students and her quest for knowledge, but most of all her kindness and zest for living. She remained enthusiastic and young at heart her entire life. Agnes' love for her family was immeasurable. She was happiest when she was living life with her family and she especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester E. Anderson; sister, Jessie Metcalf; and brother, Dale Gasch.
