Albert J. Scribner, 76, of 132 Ringland Rd., died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Thursday, April 10, 2003; 2:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska.
Albert J. Scribner was born July 31, 1926 in York, Nebraska to Albert Benjamin & Vera Mildred (Jones) Scribner. He left high school after the 9th grade in 1943 to join the United States Navy. He served from 1943 to 1947, holding the rank of Seaman First Class and served after basic training in the Pacific Theater of Operations, aboard the USS Rudyerd Bay CVE 81 during WWII. For his military service, he received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal (5 stars), Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Stripe. On December 20, 1946, he married Eileen Joyce Keairnes in Sioux City, Iowa and she preceded him in death in 1992. They lived in the Hamilton County Nebraska area, where he worked privately until November of 1948 when he began working for the Naval Ammunition Depot until October of 1949 when the plant went on standby. He moved his family to Sloan, Iowa and worked at a machine shop until September 1950 when they returned to Hastings, Nebraska. He again worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot until the end of December, 1965. He then went to Grand Island Cornhusker Ordinance Plant, retiring from there in 1973. He then worked for 15 years at Thomson Oil Company, retiring in August of 1989. He was a member of NARFE and AARP. He was also a member of the American Legion Club and the V.F.W., both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Albert J. Scribner was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 sisters and a brother.
