Hastings resident, Alfred "Mick" L. DeBacker, 86, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Edgewood Vista, Hastings, Nebraska.

Requiem Eucharist will be Thursday, August 13, 2015; 11:00 A.M. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings, The Very Rev. Catherine Scott will officiate. Private burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Book signing will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2015; 9:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral or Special Olympics-Hastings Alumni.

Mick was born September 1, 1928 in St. Marys, Kansas to Felix & Marie (Fischer) DeBacker. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School, Hastings. Mick married Sharon Schmidt on June 15, 1958 in Nashua, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army for two years. Mick worked for Lincoln Tel & Tel for 45 years. Mick was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Chorus of the Plains, Skylark's, Kiwanis, Special Olympics, and Telephone Company Pioneers. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing his roadster in stock car races. Mick was a loving husband, father, and he loved each and every one of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a handyman and jack of all trades.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters.
