Alice Gordon

December 16, 1913 — March 7, 2008

Hastings resident, Alice Lena (Hinrichs) Gordon, 94, of 2121 North Elm Avenue, died Friday, March 7, 2008 at her home.

Services will be Monday, March 10, 2008; 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church west of Glenvil, with Pastor Renee Johnson & Pastor Karen Roback officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2008; 3:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M., Sunday, March 9, 2008; 1:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and Monday, March 10, 2008; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil.

Mrs. Gordon was born December 16, 1913 to Renetius Klaus (RK) & Sophia (Stamer) Hinrichs on their farm east of Hastings. She attended District 17 and Hastings High, graduating in 1932. She was employed in Hastings at the "Show Boat" and then in administrative services at the Naval Ammunition Depot, where she was actively involved with all publication of their in-house newsletter, "Powder Keg." On February 2, 1946, she married Frederick Joseph (Tex) Gordon in Marysville, Kansas. They lived at Spencer Park, both working at the Naval Ammunition Depot until 1949 when she and Tex relocated to Holdrege, Nebraska to start a trucking business. She worked as their office manager until they sold the business in 1969 and was then employed at Becton Dickinson in Holdrege for ten years, retiring at age 65 and relocated to Hastings. She was a life long active member of the Lutheran Church, 30 years at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and 64 years at St. Paul's Lutheran, west of Glenvil, where she was baptized and confirmed in German. Every summer for 20 years, she also assisted Tex as Head Usher for the Chapel of the Lake at Johnson Lake. She was also active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary while living in Holdrege, twice serving as President of the local organization and the women's organizations at the church in both Holdrege and Hastings.

Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tex; siblings, Edward Hinrichs, Hilda (Hinrichs) Burke and Irma (Hinrichs) Hunt.
