Alice Grosshans

June 23, 1913 — August 29, 2006

Hastings resident, Alice Amanda Grosshans, 93, of 1222 North California, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Perkins Pavilion.

Memorial services will be Saturday, September 2, 2006; 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Barry Rempp officiating. Interment at a later date in Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, Nebraska. Memorials to Hope Training School or First Congregational United Church of Christ. Book signing, Thursday, August 31, 2006; 9am-9pm, Friday, September 1, 2006; 9am-9pm at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and Saturday, September 2, 2006; 1 hr. prior to service at the church.

Mrs. Grosshans was born June 23, 1913 on a farm in Clay County, northwest of Harvard, Nebraska to Albert F. & Johanna (Stedt) Bishoff. She was baptized in infancy and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and a member of Group IV. She attended rural grade school in District 41 and graduated from Harvard High School in 1931.She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught school in Clay County District 32 and the lower grades in Verona, Nebraska. On July 29, 1937, she married Leo Grosshans in Grafton, Nebraska and he preceded her in death in 1979. They lived in Sutton, Nebraska until moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1940. She was a receptionist in her husband's chiropractic office for 7 years. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship and of P.E.O. sisterhood for 67 years and a charter member of Chapter FH P.E.O. She gave much of her time to Hope Training School Association, where she worked for 27 years on the project of recycled flowers for memorial decoration.

Mrs. Grosshans was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo, son, Richard Grosshans and two brothers, Bernard & Lawrence and a sister, Dorothy Farrall.
