Alice Locke

Hastings resident, Alice Lena Locke, 100, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died July 24, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, July 30, 2015; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Charles Webster officiating. A service will also be held Friday, July 31, 2015; 10:00 A.M. in El Dorado, Kansas at Kirby Morris Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Eugene Locke and Rev. Dr. Howard Gleason officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado. Visitation is Wednesday, July 29, 2015; 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, The Kenneth and Alice Locke Family Scholarship at Hastings College, or McCormick Seminary in Chicago.

Alice Locke was born November 6, 1914, to Arthur Gfeller and Katherine (Knauss) Gfeller in Burns, Kansas. Alice married Kenneth R. Locke June 5, 1938. She attended El Dorado Junior College and Emporia State Teachers College. She served as mother, teacher and pastor's wife in Presbyterian churches in Lagro, Indiana; Bennett, Nebraska; Aurora, Nebraska; Grand Island, Nebraska; Kansas City, Kansas; and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Missouri while Ken served as Missouri Union Presbytery Executive in Jefferson City and many interim ministries in Missouri and other states.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents; sister, Emma Gfeller; infant son, Edward Locke; and infant great-grandson, Charlie Fruehling.
