Hastings resident, Alice A. Meyer, 85, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Thursday, March 29, 2007; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Wanda Cassel officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28, 2007; 9AM to 9PM & Thursday, March 29, 2007; 9AM until service time. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village or the family.
Mrs. Meyer was born March 11, 1922 in Harlan County, Nebraska, on a farm southwest of Ragan, Nebraska to John T. & Ada (Crumb) Jones. She attended school and graduated from Huntley High School, Huntley, Nebraska in 1940. She moved to Hastings shortly after graduation and went to work at the Rinders Plant and later for several prominent families. On March 11, 1941, she married Henry B. Meyer in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They spent their married life in Hastings and had most recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. Alice was a member of the Bainbridge Baptist Church near Ragan, Nebraska as a teen and then became a member of the First Baptist Church in Hastings, a member of the Women's Esther Circle and served on several board positions in the church. She was the girls Guild Group leader and taught Sunday school for many years. Alice was a Brownie & Girl Scout Leader and was active with the girls Y-Teens group at the YWCA. She arranged and taught Vacation Bible School at Longfellow Grade School for a number of years. Alice was active at the Golden Age Senior Center, assisting to serve meals, delivered the Village Echo newsletter, and enjoyed the many activities at Good Samaritan Village. After moving to Perkins Pavilion in November 2001, she enjoyed playing Bingo and many of the craft activities of Perkins. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband to Antique and Craft Shows in surrounding states. She loved her flower gardens, sewing for her girls and making quilts over the years for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her ceramics and the many gifts she made over the years for others.
Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her husband Henry B. just 14 days ago on March 10, 2007, her parents and two brothers, Marvin Jones of Hastings and Blaine Jones of McCook.
