Former Glenvil resident, Aline (Alene) M. Valentine, 85, of Blue Hill Care Center, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Blue Hill Care Center.
Memorial services are June 11, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, with Pastor Jeff Glawe officiating. Private family burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery at Glenvil. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil or to the Nebraska Alzheimer's Association. Memorials and cards of sympathy may be sent to Dennis Valentine, 723 West 33rd, Hastings, Nebraska 68901.
Mrs. Valentine was born August 22, 1923 to Herbert and Anna (Harms) Fitzke at Glenvil. She was baptized on September 14, 1923 and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil. Alene attended Mulberry Grove Country School and graduated from Glenvil High School in 1940. She attended Hastings College and obtained a Provisional Teaching Certificate. Alene taught at many of the area Country Schools and was a Kindergarten Teacher in Fairfield and Edgar Public Schools. She was a teacher's aide at Glenvil Elementary. Alene married Herman J. Valentine on August 29, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska. Alene and Herman spent most of their lives living and working on the farm. They were married 44 years. They celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary in 1988. Herman died on December 4, 1992. Alene enjoyed being involved in a variety of activities. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Glenvil, WELCA Bible Study Group and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Clay County Garden Club, Hoppin' Sams Camping Group, Happy Homemaker's and Country Women's Extension Clubs. She was a charter member of the Clay County Historical Society. She served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Clay County Extension Club Council. She volunteered to help with the County Election Board, Cancer Drives and, doing the school census, Bloodmobile and was a 4-H Leader. Her greatest love was the Clay County Fair working as Open Class Superintendent in Flowers and Foods. She was also an avid exhibitor at the fair. Alene enjoyed traveling with Herman in their camper and especially the trips to Indian Cave with their grandchildren and the Fitzke extended family. They enjoyed fishing at various area lakes. Herman and Alene spent many hours taking their children and their dairy cattle to various fairs for competition. Alene enjoyed raising chickens, flowers and canning produce from her garden. Alene enjoyed traveling and visited many states in the continental US and countries aboard.
Mrs. Valentine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman J. Valentine.
