Althea Anderson

Hastings resident, Althea B. Anderson, 83, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Thursday, November 11, 2010; 7:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 12, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 10, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., Thursday, November 11, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Hastings Catholic School Trust, Catholic Relief Services, or to donor's choice.

Althea was born April 12, 1927 at home on the farmstead near Lawrence, Nebraska to Joseph & Elizabeth (Wenzinger) Gilsdorf. She graduated from Lawrence High School. On January 7, 1948 she married Bernel Anderson at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska; they were the first couple to be married in the newly completed church. They were married for sixty years. She taught at the Antioch Country School for 2 years. She was also employed by Knights of Columbus and Allen's Department Store where she enjoyed working in the toy department for many years. Althea was a devoted life-long Catholic and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family. She was a very caring and faithful mother. Althea faced her cancer battle with dignity and courage and will be missed deeply by her family and friends.

Althea was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Bernel Anderson on March 10, 2008; siblings, Evarista Gilsdorf, Marcellus Gilsdorf, Gilbert Gilsdorf, Mark Gilsdorf, Viola Wombacher, Denis Gilsdorf, and Marcia Miley.
