Former Hastings resident, Alvar W. 'Al' Johnson, 81, of Good Samaritan Society-Ravenna, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Good Samaritan Society-Ravenna, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, June 8, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2009;1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Sunday, June 7, 2009; 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the family to be decided later.
Mr. Johnson was born August 28, 1927 in Hastings, Nebraska to Carl & Gerda (Magnuson) Johnson. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1945 and attended Hastings College. He served in the United States Navy towards the end of WWII. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and Brach Thompson before becoming Advertising Manager/Store Developer at J.M. McDonald Company. He married Peggy Bexten on April 30, 1950 and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2006. He was a past member of First United Methodist Church and Lochland Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, Husker football, his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter, Elizabeth Marble.
