Former Hastings resident, Amy Louise Ruberson, 50, left this world for a place much better suited to her on May 11, 2017, in Maxwell, Nebraska.
Private family graveside service will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin. Memorials may be given to Arc of Adams-Clay. Book signing will be Saturday, May 13, 2017; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Amy Ruberson was born in Santa Clara, California, on December 29, 1966, to James Ruberson and Joyce Ruberson (nee Wallace). She came to this world with Down Syndrome, which was a stumbling block to some who met her, but was what freed her to be someone marvelous and to lift everyone else around her. Wherever she was, the world was a better place.
Amy was and is a being of light, motion, and joy. With her auburn hair and ready smile, she warmed and lit hearts of all around her. Her laughter expressed a joy that came from the depths of her being and was a catalyst impossible to resist. She could quickly set a room into laughter with her own. She loved music, and when it played, the rhythm would set all of her into motion - swaying, swinging, rocking, laughing. Music went through every part of her and animated her to reflect it back. She sang with a gusto and joy that was thoroughly infectious. Hearing a Bee Gees song was never the same after being with Amy when one was playing.
She was an indefatigable mimic. She could pick things up quickly and had a knack for tossing silly impressions out at the most opportune moments. She loved movies and knew certain characters and their attributes remarkably well. She loved voicing those characters, and making people laugh with her impressions. Her eclectic choices of people to mimic were part of the charm - Darth Vader, Tom Hanks, the Three Amigos, for example. She participated in Special Olympics for many years and worked at Pizza Hut in Hastings for 11 years.
Amy's mortal life was one full of joy, love, laughter, light, and hope. Of course, there were plenty of rocky and challenging times, but those are heavily overbalanced by the love- and laughter-filled times. She freely gushed joy to others, and drew others to her because of her light and love. We will miss Amy dearly, but look forward with confidence to seeing her again.
Amy was preceded in death by her father, James Ruberson.
