Hastings resident, Anita Marie (Hupf) Hawes, 85, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Sunday, January 4, 2015; 4:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 5, 2015; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, January 4, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
She was the oldest of three children born to Carl and Edith (Lockwood) Hupf in Kenesaw, Nebraska. She was born December 16, 1929. Anita graduated from Kenesaw High School. On June 8, 1948 she married James Hawes and since that time they have resided in Hastings. Together they raised a family of five daughters. Serving Adams County in the office of County Clerk from 1962 through 1989, Anita was honored by being named County Official of the Year for the State of Nebraska in 1987. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church by serving as an organist, a member of the choir, the Altar Society, the Outreach program and the Saints Quilting group. Anita also was an active member of Hastings Christian Women's Association and Catholic Daughters of America.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Edith Hupf and brothers, LaVerne (Bud) Hupf and Dale Hupf.
