Hastings resident, Anna "Madeline" (Jensen) Fitz, 89, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Monday, May 19, 2014; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M., Monday, May 19, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Anna "Madeline" (Jensen) Fitz was born on December 16, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ella Madeline (Coyne) and George Andrew Jensen. Her early life was spent living in and around Inavale, Nebraska. She attended No. 9 School in Webster County and graduated from Inavale High School in 1942. Madeline moved with her family to Kansas City, Missouri after graduation and she worked for Business Men's Assurance Company. Madeline and Kenneth Clayton Fitz were married at Holy Cross Church, Kansas City, Missouri on November 23, 1946. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1948 where they resided the rest of their married life. Madeline worked for Hested Variety store and also for Dutton Lainson offices for several years after moving to Hastings. She was self-employed for years during which she made habits for the Crosier Fathers and Brothers and did custom sewing for the public and attended craft shows. Madeline was a member of St. Michael's Church and Altar Society, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Mary Lanning and Good Samaritan Auxiliaries, the Crosier Apostolate and Perkie Daisies extension club. Madeline was a long time member of Cancer Support Groups in both Hastings and Grand Island and walked in Relays for Life in most of the south central area of Nebraska. She walked in the Komen Race for the Cure in Phoenix and the Relay for Life in Blue Springs, Missouri. She wrote a book, "No Nuts Please", about her recovery from her two cancers.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Alline Marie Schmidt and brother, George Andrew Jensen II.
