Hastings resident AnnaMarie "Marie" Green, 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. Memorials to the family to be designated at a later date. The family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service. In honoring her request to be cremated, there will be no viewing or visitation.
Marie was born on the family farm near Seneca, KS on January 21, 1937. She graduated from Colby High School in Colby, KS. Following graduation, she moved to California with her girlfriends to work as an operator for the phone company. She said she went to California because "that was the thing to do". She later moved to Denver, CO where she met and married her husband of 47 years, Ed Green and went to work for United Airlines. They relocated to Hastings in 1971. Marie enjoyed being a stay at home mom, then worked part-time at H&R Block before rejoining the airline industry. Marie managed the commuter airlines that serviced Hastings for many years before retiring. After retirement, she worked part-time at Super 8 motel until 2014. Marie was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Marie's greatest accomplishment was her family. She was everyone's biggest cheerleader and supported her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in so many ways. Marie loved a bargain and grew up in a time where you didn't throw things away because someday she might need them again. She was an avid bowler for many years and a past Girl Scout troop leader. Marie loved to tend to her flowers, many of which will be enjoyed by her family for years to come. Marie will be remembered for her caring attitude, acceptance of everyone she met, her sense of humor, and her love of country music. For years she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and would make bets on who was buying dinner with family members based on who got the most answers correct.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; parents, CB and Rachel Olberding; brothers, Alton, Merlin, and Lyle; and her dachshund, Williebeans.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Melissa (Rick) Naylor, of Hastings and Jenny Green, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Ashley (Terance) Burrell, Justin (Amanda) Esch, Dakota Hiatt, and Tyson Hiatt of Hastings, Kateri (Wyatt Kamper) Hiatt of Grand Island and Trevor Hiatt of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Ambroshia Jones, Terance Burrell Jr., Kayden Esch, Camille Esch, MaKenzie Esch, Brinley Esch, and Lakota Kamper; step-grandchildren, Renee Howell, Michelle Naylor, and Rick Naylor Jr., and their children Tyler Naylor, Kiera Jackson, Jaiden Jackson, Jaxsyn Howell, and Brooklyn Naylor; sister, Kathy Surmeier of Colby, KS; sister-in-law, Virginia Olberding of Beloit, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
