Ardyce Bohlke

Hastings resident, Ardyce L. Bohlke, 69, passed away February 21, 2013. Born November 2, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur and Naomi Gidley, Ardyce graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1961. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1965. Ardyce married Jon Bohlke on February 4, 1967 and they raised two sons.

Ardyce was the current program director for Kinman-Oldfield Family Foundation. Prior to this, she worked as the director of resource development for Hastings Good Samaritan Village. As a senator in the Nebraska Legislature 1991-2000, Ardyce served on numerous committees and as the chair of the Education Committee.

Ardyce was a leader in many civic, cultural and educational organizations: Hastings Board of Education 1980-1988, serving as president 1984-1987; Hastings State Bank Board of Directors ; Hastings League of Women Voters, president; YWCA Board 1987-1988, president; Hastings Utilities Board 1989-1991; Friends of Lied Board of Directors; University of Nebraska Foundation, trustee; First United Methodist Church, former member; First Presbyterian Church, current member; Museum of Nebraska Art Board, president; Hastings Symphony Board; chair of multiple campaigns to elect Ben Nelson as Governor and U.S. Senator. In 2002, Ardyce received statewide recognition from several groups for her contributions to education, which included being named Woman of the Year by the Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women.

for the Memorial Service is Tuesday, February 26, 2013; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Berke Landrum and Dr. W.T. Israel officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the YWCA, the Maryland Project for CASA, or the Ardyce Bohlke Scholarship administered by the Hastings Public Schools Foundation. There will be no viewing or visitation. Book signing will be Saturday, February 23, 12:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., Monday, February 25, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home (no family will be present), and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ardyce was preceded in death by her parents.
