It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arlen Dean Sealock, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Arlen, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Arlen will be interred in Bristol, TN, where he will spend eternity alongside his wife Charlotte at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. with family present Saturday, March 16, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, your local chapter of The American Legion, or Habitat for Humanity. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. To view the service, go to Arlen’s obituary and click the play button shown towards the bottom of the page.
Arlen was extremely loyal to friends and family and would drop everything to help someone out whenever he was called upon for assistance. He also had a mischievous sense of humor and prided himself on being able to pull a good prank, some of which would take months to plan and execute. These pranks would then become fodder for his many, many, many stories, which he told to anyone and everyone who would listen.
Born in Hastings, NE on March 8, 1937, Arlen and his family moved to Superior, NE in 1945. After high school, Arlen served with the U.S. Air Force and returned to Nebraska to follow in his father’s footsteps as a truck driver, but his father encouraged him instead to take advantage of engineering opportunities afforded to him from his time in the Air Force. He did so and worked first for Philco, then Denelcor, and finally Raytheon in their missile systems division. During that time, Arlen met and married Barbara Brandt, with whom he had two children who were raised in New Hampshire. After their divorce, Arlen moved to Bristol, TN, where he met Charlotte Jobe, who would become his wife. Upon her passing in 2010, Arlen returned to Hastings, NE, to be among family and friends.
Arlen is survived by his son, Darren Sealock; daughter, Robyn Sealock (Frank Steinman); stepdaughter, Stephanie Burrows; stepson, John Bagley; sisters-in-law, Judy Sealock and Shari Sealock; 11 beloved nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special friend, Ellie Winbolt; “adopted” daughters, Kim Bare and Sandi Moll; the Gerow family; and many friends, both old and new. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dorothy Sealock; his sister, Mary Jo Aurand; brother-in-law, Clarence Aurand; his brothers, Jim and Tom Sealock; his wife, Charlotte Sealock; and his stepdaughter, Christina Burrows.
