Former Hastings resident, Asa 'Ace' Kramer, 98, of Wayne, Nebraska, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Wayne.
Services will be Thursday, September 11, 2008; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel will Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 2008; 4:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M and Thursday, September 11, 2008, 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be given to donor's choice.
Mr. Kramer was born May 28, 1910 in Norman, Nebraska to Oliver and Catherine (Emel) Kramer. He grew up in Holstein, Nebraska and graduated from Holstein High School in 1927. He married Myrtle-Ida Benson in 1936 and she preceded him in death in 1965. He started working at the age of 12 and learned to become an auto mechanic at age 15. He was shop foreman for Lienhart Motors, which became Kerr Chevrolet in 1939. During WWII, he was in charge of vehicle supply and maintenance, which was necessary to build airplane landing strips in Nebraska and Idaho. Except for his WWII work, he worked at Kerr Chevrolet from 1939 until retiring in 1975, first as shop foreman, then as Parts Manager. After that retirement, he worked as a free-lance consultant for reorganization of car dealerships' parts departments, retiring in 1990. He was a lifetime member of Eagles and Elks Clubs. He drove to every football bowl game in which Nebraska played for all the years Osborne was coach. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader and follower of NU football and Tiger Woods' golf.
Mr. Kramer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrtle-Ida; five brothers, Sylvester in infancy, Walt, Ira, Lyle, and Byron; one sister, Ruth Kunselman/Crone, and twin sisters at birth.
