Audrey Long

Hastings resident, Audrey Christine (Symmonds) Long, 103, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, July 2, 2016; 1:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Dustin H. Bower officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Audrey was the third of eight children, born on October 9, 1912 on a farm near Glenwood, Nebraska. She attended the Glenwood and Victor Schools until ninth grade. Audrey graduated from Kearney High School. After high school, Audrey went to nursing school at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. As a nurse, her career spanned hospital and office nursing positions, as well as being the school nurse for the Community College at Hastings before her retirement.

Audrey married Howard Baker in June 1937. They had two children. After Howard's early death in 1953, she later married John P. "Doc" Jessee in 1960. His death occurred in January 1967. In September 1967, Audrey married N. "Jim" Long, whose death occurred in January 1989.

Eventually, Audrey moved to The Kensington Assisted Living residence in Hastings, enjoying her time spent living there. The last several years, she resided at Perkins Pavilion-Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.

At different times in her life, Audrey enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, fishing, and camping.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husbands; parents, George & Ada (Johnson) Symmonds; and siblings, Helen, Wyatt, Opal, Thelma, Phyllis, and Genevieve.
