Audrey Whitcomb

Hastings resident, Audrey L. Whitcomb, 89, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Edgewood Vista, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Monday, February 15, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Alan Davis and Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, February 13, 2010; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Sunday, February 14, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or the Nebraska Children's Home in Omaha.

Audrey was born April 8, 1920 in Clay Center, Nebraska to Ivan & Frances (Chamberlain) Fate. She was a lifelong area resident except for living in California briefly as a child. She graduated from Pauline High School and attended Hastings College. On December 2, 1939 she married Carl R. Whitcomb. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2000. She was a teacher in Adams County and in Blue Hill, Nebraska. She then worked as a social welfare case worker for Adams County. She was a genealogist and was active in the DAR. She was a member of the Pauline United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church, Hastings. She was very active in the church, women's groups, and Sunday School.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl R. Whitcomb; son, Carl D. Whitcomb; sister, Mary Fate; brother, George Fate; and sister-in-law, Donna Fate.
