Austin Searles

Hastings resident, Austin A. Searles, 92, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.

Services will be Thursday, February 23, 2017; 1:30 P.M. at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene, Hastings with Pastor John Whitsett officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2017; 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with the family present at the funeral home and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene.

Austin was born September 22, 1924 to Frank & Frances (Johnson) Searles in Redbird, Nebraska. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1941. Austin married Gladys Ernst on June 1, 1948 and to this union, 5 daughters were born. Austin farmed and ranched for most of his life in Holt County on the Searles family farm.

Austin was an active member of Farm Bureau. He taught Sunday school at Paddock Union Church North of O'Neill, Nebraska for many years. Austin served on Holt County District 1 School Board. Austin made a living using his hands and had the ability to make the things he needed. His favorite hobby was reading and he enjoyed the outdoors.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ilene Anderson and Irene Brock.
