Barbara was born October 22, 1939 in Franklin, Nebraska to Perry & Germaine (Sullivan) Kile. The family moved to Blue Hill when Barb was two years old. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Blue Hill. She made her first communion and confirmation there. After World War II, the family moved to a farm near Bladen, Nebraska where she attended Bladen High School. In 1958, Barb married Eugene Garvin. To this union, three children were born; Randy, Tom and Mary. The family were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They lived in Nelson for many years and during that time they owned and operated the Orbit Inn. One of Barb's favorite things was making a huge meal for the senior football boys during Randy and Tom's senior years. She loved making Christmas a big family celebration by decorating her yard and for a few years decorated a tree on the courthouse lawn. One of her greatest joys was taking care of her physical challenged daughter and seeing her accomplishments, loved her grandchildren dearly and always signified her love with "love you pieces." After Barb and Gene were divorced, Barb and Mary moved to Hastings, Nebraska where Barb worked at St. Michael's School as a janitor until retiring. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Perry & Germaine Kile; infant sister; brothers, Bill Kile and Eldon Kile; and sister, Fritz Boo.
