Barbara McCarthy

Former Hastings resident Barbara C. McCarthy, 87, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018, at Heritage of Bel-Air, Norfolk, NE.

Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Barbara was born in Nebraska City, NE to Eugene & Rosalia (Ramold) Kreifels. She graduated from St. Bernard’s Academy in 1948. She worked as a dental assistant in Nebraska City. She married Robert E. McCarthy on September 16, 1950. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2004.

Barbara and Robert moved to Scottsbluff, NE, where they raised their family. In 1974, they relocated to Hastings, NE. She worked at Watson Elementary School in the food service department. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she participated in the Altar Society and choir.

Barbara dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed baking, crafting and was an avid walker. She had many dear and loyal friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers and their spouses, Orville & Pat Kreifels, Allen Kreifels, and Andrew & Margaret Kreifels.
