Hastings resident, Barbara A. McCord, 86, passed from this life on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Saturday, August 20, 2016; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Start Over Rover. Visitation will be Friday, August 19, 2016; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Barbara was born in Vermillion, South Dakota in 1929 to Earl Thorson and Wilma I. Clark. Her father died and in 1939, Wilma married Delmar H. Pederson in Sioux City, Iowa. Delmar worked for Cudahy Meat Packing Company and the family moved to various South Dakota and Nebraska cities before arriving in Hastings in 1945. She was one of three sisters and one brother. Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Hastings High School. She was a telephone operator at the Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph Company in Hastings. Barbara married Delmar L. McCord on January 31, 1953, and one son, Delmar M. "Monty" McCord was born that November.
She went on to manage Four Seasons Gift shop, a division of Cash-Wa-Candy Co. The entire family was active in riding and showing American Quarter Horses in the region. Barbara raised and sold Toy poodles and loved her own, especially Tiger and Silver Belle. From the 1970s through the1990s she was a homemaker and worked with her husband Del in his hardware business. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #11.
Barbara was preceded in death by her in death were her parents, sisters; Beverly and Sally.
