Bernard Tushaus

January 6, 1945 — October 21, 2015

Hastings resident, Bernard "Bernie" C. Tushaus, 70, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, November 7, 2015; 1:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. There will also be a Celebration of Life gathering later that evening at a location yet to be announced. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Bernie was born January 6, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Albert & Myrtle (Arns) Tushaus. He graduated from University of Colorado, Boulder, with a master's degree in theatre. Bernie married Lois "Jane" Gorder on March 30, 1974. Bernie was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was an amazing father, a loving husband, a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather, and a great friend, colleague and teacher to so many. He kept a positive attitude throughout his entire life and always expressed a smile to anyone near him. He taught thousands of students over a period of 25 years at Hastings College, while filling people's lives with books and great stories for nearly 40 years at Prairie Books & Gifts. He lived life to the fullest up to the very end, and spent many great and memorable times with his family and friends. He appreciated all of the support and well wishes that he received from so many.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Len; and sister, Carolyn.
