Hastings resident, Bernhardt R. 'Benny' Schmidt, 69, of 1126 North Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at his home.

Rosary will be Thursday, March 6, 2008; 7:00 P.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 7, 2008; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 5, 2008; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. & Thursday, March 6, 2008; 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home and 1 hr. prior to Rosary at the church & Friday, March 7, 2008; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given Bernhardt R. 'Benny' Schmidt Memorial Fund.

Benny was born December 24, 1938 in Glenvil, Nebraska to George Claus & Rose Rebecca (Gruessing) Schmidt. He graduated from Glenvil High School in 1956 and married Jeanette Mangers at Assumption Catholic Church at Juniata, Nebraska on April 23, 1960. He worked for Farmers Union Gas & Oil, Juniata, Nebraska from 1966 until his retirement in1999. He was the General Manager from 1980 - 1999. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Acolyte, extraordinary minister, and 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. He was past Executive Director of Central Non-Stock Transportation in Grand Island, past Director-Manager Council of Cenex-Land -O - Lakes and Advisory Council of Cenex-Farmland Petroleum Board, past member of L.P. Gas Association and Petroleum Marketers Association. He was also past Director Hastings Catholic Activities Association, recipient of HCAA Hall of Fame award, Southern Hills Realty Board, past President of Southern Hills Men's Golf Association and was an Associate Director at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Benny enjoyed reading, sports, traveling, yard work, woodworking, GOLF, following all the grandchildren's activities, Bluehawk sports and all Big Red Nebraska sports.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents.
