Hastings resident, Bessie M. Pittz, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at College View Assisted Living & Memory Support, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Friday, January 11, 2013; 7:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 12, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family.
Bessie was born February 10, 1923 in Frankfort, Kansas to John J. & Pearl J. (Scoville) Pittman. She moved to Hastings in 1937. Bessie married Mathias Pittz on July 7, 1941 in Concordia, Kansas; he preceded her in death on October 19, 2012. Bessie work with her family at the Beanery, which they renamed the OK Café in 1937. She was a cook at Spencer Park School and Hastings High School before retiring in 1975. Bessie was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mathias Pittz; four sisters; and two brothers.
