Betty Allen

Hastings resident, Betty J. Allen, 72, passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be Tuesday, November 24, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday, November 23, 2009; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and 1 hour prior to service at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Blue Valley Cemetery Maintenance.

Betty was born March 24, 1937 in Hastings, Nebraska to Adam & Katherine (Fox) Streck. She graduated from Hastings High School and married Robert L. Allen on February 5, 1955 at Second Presbyterian Church in Hastings. She worked at Woolworth's part time, Tribune mailroom for many years, and program manager at the Golden Friendship Center for 20 years. After her retirement she enjoyed helping the Zion Lutheran Lunch Program for 3 years. She was the 2002 First Lady's Outstanding Community Service Award winner for the state of Nebraska. She attended Second Presbyterian Church for many years and was presently a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Stephen Brown, 2 sisters, Mildred Holsten and Eleanor Jones and one brother Donald Streck.
