Hastings resident, Betty J. Gildersleeve, 90, quietly slipped away from her loved ones in Perkins Pavilion Short Term Care Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska, October 8, 2014.
Services will be Monday, October 13, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Book signing will be Monday, October 13, 2014; 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be given to the family for Brennan Burling's Youth Ministry through San Diego Campus Crusade for Christ.
Betty was born on January 1, 1924, in rural Fairmont, Nebraska to Clarence and Tessie (Ploch) Sanders. Betty attended school at Fairmont, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1941. On August 3, 1942 she was united in marriage with Richard D. Gildersleeve in Wayne, Nebraska, he preceded her in death on August 11, 1981. Two days after they were married, he left for military training in California. They were rejoined six weeks later in Oregon and later were transferred to Oklahoma. Their only child, Richard Lee Gildersleeve was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on November 29, 1943. Their military lives then moved them to Fort Smith, Arkansas until Betty came to Hastings, Nebraska with their son to be close to family when her husband was deployed overseas. Hastings has remained her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson; Scott Gildersleeve, her sister; Evelyn Larson, and brothers-in-law; Courtney Larson & Robert Hossle.
