Betty Yeager

Hastings resident, Betty L. Yeager, 81, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, December 14, 2017; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with The Rev. Dr. David B. McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. In her memory and spirit, give your loved ones a hug and realize the value of the days with your family. Memorials may be given to donor's choice or to the Scottish Rites Clinic For Childhood Language Disorders Of Hastings. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13, 2017; 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present, and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Betty Lou Yeager was born December 25, 1935, to Lloyd and Blanche (Norton) Bierman on a farm five miles northeast of Hastings, Nebraska. She was the only daughter with two older brothers, Robert and Dale.

She attended District #33 (Tri-View) School through the eighth grade, then Hastings High School, graduating from the 12th grade in 1953. In her senior year, she worked part-time in the office of Food Centers and continued working there for two years. She then worked 13 years as a bookkeeper for Hastings Casket Company, 18 years as a bookkeeper for H&M Equipment and over eight years as a bookkeeper for the Hastings Airport Authority until she retired in December 1997.

She attended First Presbyterian Church as a young child and when a teenager, joined the Second Presbyterian Church in 1952, where she served as elder, deacon and a number of years on the audit committee.

She was a life member of Hastings VFW Ladies Auxiliary and some years ago, reached the status of golden age eagle in the Hastings Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed ready, playing computer solitaire, listening to country/western music and doing puzzles forming words from scrambled letters.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother (1970) and father (1988); brother, Robert (2004); step-mother, Dorothy (1980); and step-mother, Alice (1996).
