Beverly Jean (Farmer) Shepherd, age 83, of Hastings, died peacefully at home with family on November 12, 2012.
Mrs. Shepherd was born Sept. 2, 1929, on a farm in Custer Center to Orval "Nick" and Edna (Marquiss) Farmer. She attended Broken Bow schools. Following graduation, she attended business school before working as a secretary for the Brown Fruit Company.
She married Vernon Shepherd on June 6, 1948, in Broken Bow. They resided in Grand Island, where they were members of the United Methodist Church. They relocated to Hastings in 1971 when Mr. Shepherd became manager of Allen's department store.
Mrs. Shepherd enjoyed traveling as part of her genealogy research and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid reader, especially of American history, and among her favorite books were presidential biographies.
Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darrel Farmer. She is survived by her husband Vernon, daughter Pamela (Patrick) Capouch, son Kevin (Stephanie) Shepherd, and grandchildren Elizabeth Capouch, Riley Shepherd, and Jake Shepherd.
Private interment was held in the family plot at Westerville Cemetery, where Mr. Shepherd's parents, James and Mary, are buried.
