Bob Hawthorne

Hastings resident, Bob D. Hawthorne, 86, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his home of cancer.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010; 9:30 A.M. at Giltner Cemetery, Giltner. Memorial services will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010; 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church building project or Duncan Field project.

Bob was born June 10, 1924, as the youngest of seven children to George & Agnes (Livingston) Hawthorne in Hamilton County, Nebraska. He graduated from Giltner High School and farmed in that area all of his life. Bob served on various church, school, community and state boards. In 2010, he was honored as Sportsman of the Year for his contributions and dedication to the betterment of wildlife resources by the Nebraska Wildlife Protectors Association. He was elected to the Upper Big Blue NRD; he was president of the Hamilton County Livestock Feeders Association and he was honored for agriculture conservation. He was a pioneer of deep well irrigation in the Hamilton County area. Bob was an avid sports lover and hunter; he enjoyed bridge, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Ranard; two brothers, Ralph and Clarence; and three sisters; Gladys Hawthorne, Helen Hart, and Betty Kuzma.
