Burton Sole

April 18, 1940 — December 29, 2013

Hastings resident, Burton "Burt" Edward Sole, 73, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be Saturday, January 11, 2014; 10:00 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorial Services will be Saturday, January 11, 2014; 11:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 9, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., and Friday, January 10, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings Burial Detail, or Start Over Rover.

Born on April 18, 1940 to Carl Q. & Lucile (Barbur) Sole was second to the youngest of six children. He attended Morton Elementary School, Hastings Jr. High School and graduated with the Class of 1958 from Hastings High. In February 1959 Burton joined the U.S. Navy serving with CIPAC, and the Seventh Fleet until February 1963. Upon returning to Hastings he joined his brother Bill in the operation of the Bee Printing Co. On April 26, 1969, he married Sharon Kay (Shari) Sittner Sole at the South St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burton joined the work force at Hastings Utilities at the North Denver Station in 1970 and retired from Gerald Whelan Energy Center in 2000. Burton loved to garden raising vegetables for everyone and grow flowers especially roses. His 1978 BMW motorcycle was a dream come true and rode it until just this last year when it was time for a calmer scooter. He and Shari hit every state but two, either on the bike or with the truck and fifth wheel. Never without a dog beside, especially Molly, he loved his early morning coffee with the guys, browsing the stores and accumulating his many bargains as he called them. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, UCT, USS Hector Association, Hastings Military Detail group and the Navy Lithographers Association.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
