Hastings resident, Carl A. Sanderson, Jr., 68 of 2711 Butterfoot Lane, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.
Memorial service will be Monday, June 3, 2002; 2:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rev. Carl W. Utley officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska prior to church service.
Carl A. Sanderson, Jr. was born March 12, 1934 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Carl A. & Verna (Adams) Sanderson. He graduated from Aurora High School, Aurora, Nebraska in 1952. He participated in football and graduated from Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska in 1956 with a BA Degree. He served in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas from July 30, 1956 to July 29, 1958. On June 8, 1957, he married Florence Achziger in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He began his career as an insurance claims adjuster in Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa in1958 and moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1961 as manager of General Adjustment Bureau. He joined Ellerbrock-Norris Insurance Agency in 1963, retiring in 2000. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was also a member of Lochland Country Club. He was a past member of Jaycees, Elks Club, Kiwanis, Mid-West Lodge #317, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Sandheaters, Hastings School board from 1976-1980 and Vice President of Chamber of Commerce. He was co-founder of the Hastings midget football program along with Chuck Stickels.
