Hastings resident, Carl R. Throckmorton, 83, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at Mary Lanning HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Memorial Services will be Thursday, September 5, 2013; 1:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Clyde Sachtleben and Carl Throckmorton Academic Scholarship. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Carl R. Throckmorton was born near Loup City, Nebraska on May 17, 1930 to Alonzo & Lyal (Cramer) Throckmorton. After graduating from Loup City Public Schools, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served five years during the Korean War. In 1956 Carl married Alice Lynn Swanson in Loup City. He earned a Bachelors degree in physics, mathematics, and education at Hastings College in 1957. After teaching at Hastings High School for two years he completed a Masters degree from the University of South Dakota in mathematics and physics in 1961. Throckmorton began teaching physics and mathematics at Hastings College in 1963. In 1970 Throckmorton obtained a second Masters degree from Colorado State University followed by a PhD in radiation biophysics in 1973. He returned to Hastings College to teach, retiring in 1995 after 32 years. He served on the Boards of the Little Blue Natural Resources District, Historical Society, and Highland Park Cemetery. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. He was inducted into the Pro Rege Society of Hastings College in 1993.
