Carol Ann Yost was born June 21, 1946, to Chester George and Margaret Barbara (Weber) Yost at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. Carol attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic School and graduated from STC in 1964. On March 4, 1967, she married Donald John (Jack) Schlimmer at St. Cecilia Church. From this union two daughters were born: Renee Catherine and Jacqueline (Jackie) Marie. After 17 years they divorced.

In 1990 Carol reunited with James Kindig. In 1992 they bought their forever home in Kenesaw. On June 6, 1994, she married James H. Kindig at the Kenesaw United Methodist Church.

After high school, Carol worked for LT&T for three years. Carol then began her 40-year commitment to the Hastings Regional Center. She started in the canteen in 1974. She stayed in the canteen for three years. She then transferred to the Recreation Department. She remained in Recreation for 18 years. The final four years of that position she attended Hastings College, where she majored in health and fitness, and minored in psychology. She then continued her education by attending the University of Kearney at Kearney. She obtained a Masters Degree in Psychology. She then achieved all necessary requirements to become a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner. She moved from Recreation to Geriatric Services and held that position for three years. She then spent eight years in the Dual Diagnosis Program as a therapist. Her last four years at HRC were spent with the Youth Chemical Dependency Program. She retired on May 26, 2011. She started in the canteen and left with a Masters Degree.

During her time at HRC, Carol became an active member of the Nebraska Association of Public Employees. She assisted fellow employees by educating them about union rights and benefits and aided many in filing grievances when she became a union steward. She was an active member of the Adams County Democratic Party from 1981 to 2011. She functioned as vice president for ACDP and later became president of the Federation of Labor. In more recent years her political views had shifted, her conservative ideals prompted her to switch parties and she registered as a republican.

Jim and Carol traveled extensively. They had viewed most of the continental United States from their camper. Internationally they had seen Canada, Mexico, France, Australia, and New Zealand.

During her retirement, she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society and the Kenesaw Quilters. Every Tuesday morning she adored having coffee with various ladies from the Kenesaw community. She had fun doing crafts and visiting friends in Hastings. She truly appreciated the many luncheons with phone company employees, other retired HRC employees, and the many friends that she accumulated throughout her life. She also liked completing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She took great joy in writing and revising her biography, which will be a lifelong treasure for her daughters. The diagnosis of multiple myeloma slowed her active life, but she remained positive, as always. The discovery of pancreatic cancer, though traumatic, only strengthened her faith. She was a wholesome and loyal servant to our Lord. And her absence will be tremendous.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Jean Tenhoff.
