Hastings resident Catherine A. Jorn, 91, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at The Kensington, Hastings, NE. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Craig Clinch officiating. The burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, American Parkinson Association, American Cancer Society, St. Cecilia Catholic Church, or to the donor’s choice. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Catherine was born to Albert and Cathelma Alford in Superior, NE on February 2, 1933. She was the youngest of three daughters. Her first few years were spent on a leased farm six miles west of Superior. Her parents later purchased a farm three miles north and west of Bostwick, NE. She attended rural school until seventh grade when she rode the school bus to Superior until graduation in 1950. She then moved to Salina, KS to attend Brown Mackie Business School. After school she was a bookkeeper at St. John’s Hospital in Salina for two years and then went back to Superior to work in a doctor’s office as a nursing assistant. She worked there until her marriage to Wilfred “Willy” Jorn on June 1, 1955; he preceded her in death on August 31, 2015.

Catherine and Willy lived in Lawrence, NE for a few years and then moved to Hastings. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. After their children were in school, she did some accounting jobs in her home while taking a night class at Central Community College. She was secretary and treasurer for Dick Looye Construction, Inc. for 17 years until Dick retired and then worked six more years for Rosch Commercial Bldrs., Inc. until she retired.

When growing up, her hobbies were horseback riding and roller-skating including dancing on skates. As an adult, she and her husband enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing and bowling.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred “Willy” Jorn; son, Thomas Jorn; infant son, Richard Allen; infant grandson, Travis James; sisters, Roberta Alford and Dolly Egan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary & Rollie Jorn; and many other extended family members.

She is survived by her daughter Teresa and son-in-law David Wagner of Pine City, MN, her son Michael Jorn of Hastings and her daughter-in-law Nancy Jorn (wife of Thomas) of Elkhorn, NE and by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also by numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
