Hastings resident Charlene L. Turner, 87, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 7, at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Reverend Lance Clay officiating. The burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Trumbull Community Center or First United Methodist Church of Hastings. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Charlene was born January 1, 1938, in Farnam, Nebraska to Warren and Doris (Gugleman) Rowley. She graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska in 1956, Mary Lanning School of Nursing in 1959, and received her master’s degree from Kearney State. Charlene married Dennis E. Turner on March 6, 1960, at First Baptist Church in Hastings; he preceded her in death on March 3, 2022.
Charlene worked as a nurse at Mary Lanning. After receiving her masters she worked at Children and Adolescents Clinic, South Central Behavioral Services, and taught classes at Central Community College, along with various other roles. She was a member of First Baptist Church and currently, First United Methodist, where she took on many roles as a teacher, mentor, supporter and cook. Charlene was instrumental in the formation of the Crossroads Center and she started a local Parkinson’s support group.
Charlene wore many hats, she was a cook, seamstress, painter, traveler, camper, gardener, and philanthropist to name a few. More than that, Charlene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. It was the great grandchildren who could always put a smile on her face and brought her so much joy at the end of her life.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dennis E. Turner, and brother Jim Rowley.
