Hastings resident, Charles E. Richardson, MD, 80, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at his home.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 12, 2016; 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hastings with Rev. Kenneth G. Leischner officiating. Burial will be Monday, March 14, 2016 in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Nebraskans for Peace. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Charles was born November 9, 1935 in Eureka, California to Kenneth & Lorraine (Gladden) Richardson. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1954; "never again and never before - we are the Class of 1954". Charles married LaVonne on September 13, 1957. He graduated from University of Oregon Medical School in 1962. He worked as a psychiatrist and clinical director for both Lincoln and Hastings Regional Centers and was one of the founding members of the Lincoln/Lancaster County Mental Health Center. Charles collected 5,000 signatures to ensure the placement of Ralph Nader on the ballot in 2000. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Nebraskans for Peace, and Nebraska Green Party, and involved in efforts to promote sustainable energy in Hastings. Charles was a dedicated vegetarian and had a pet chicken named "Red". He loved his wife, children and grandchildren, but not as much as they loved him.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eric; and brothers, Kenneth and Brian.
