Hastings resident, Charles William 'Bill' Southern,85, of 831 Turner, died Monday, December 12, 2005 at Haven Home of Kenesaw, Kenesaw, Nebraska, with his children and granddaughter by his side.
Rosary will be Friday, December 16, 2005; 7:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 17, 2005; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Steven Major officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, all in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mr. Southern was born July 7, 1920 in Modale, Iowa to Ralph Sievert and Mary Teresa (Behm) Southern. He graduated from Modale High School, Modale, Iowa in 1938. He served in the United States Navy from January 8, 1942 until November 5, 1945 and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On August 21, 1950, he married Inez Marian Stewart in Chadron, Nebraska and she preceded him in death on March 16, 1988. He worked for the Meat Animal Research Center in Fort Robinson, Nebraska and Clay Center, Nebraska from 1953-1986. He moved from Fort Robinson, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in April of 1966. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a past member of the V.F.W.
Mr. Southern was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Inez M. (Stewart) Southern; infant daughter, Mary Catherine Southern and one sister, Eleanor Wisecup.
