Hastings resident Cheryl Ann “Cherrie” (Fleming) Mooers, 68, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on July 29, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, and Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Friday, August 3, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE with a luncheon to follow at Theisen Hall at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or Catholic Social Services in Hastings. Visitation will be 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Cherrie was born in Hastings, NE, on February 12, 1950, to Clyde and Ella (McCarty) Fleming. Cherrie grew up in Hastings graduating from Hastings Senior High School in 1968. She attended Hastings College. She worked at Mary Lanning Hospital as a Clinical Instructor and Radiological Technologist, where she met the love of her life.
She married Richard “Bruce” Mooers on June 25, 1970. As they began their family, Cherrie began working for Drs. Mastin, Miller, Wycoff, and Skoch as a transcriptionist and radiological technologist. In 1984, Cherrie and Bruce began building their business, Electronic Systems, together. They made a great team as Cherrie led as the President and Chief Financial Officer, and Bruce was Vice President and General Manager.
Cherrie was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She worked on the Evangelization committee, led bible studies, coordinated Light of the World retreats, sang in the choir, played the organ, and served on the financial board and Stewardship committee. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She served on the Hastings Public Schools Foundation. She enjoyed playing bridge, singing and playing the organ, taking family vacations, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved Jesus and spreading the word of God. Cherrie will be deeply missed by her family and many, many friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ella; daughter, Theresa Marie; brother-in-law, Don Nispel; father-in-law, Wayne Mooers; brother-in-law, Steve Mooers; and sister-in-law, Lila Mooers.
