Chester Dale Owens, 85, of 1734 W. 4th, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa after a brief illness.
Services will be Tuesday, April 10, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. Carl Utley officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska.
Chester Dale Owens was born October 10, 1915 in Abilene, Kansas to Thomas Guy & Queenie (Parks) Owens. He moved with his family to Hastings, Nebraska in 1927 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1933. He taught school at District #63 in Hall County, Nebraska from 1934-1937. He joined the National Guard 110th Medical Regiment in 1937 and was inducted into the United States Army December 23, 1940 to January 28, 1946. He served in North Africa, Italy and the Pacific when Japan surrendered. On May 29, 1939, he married Helen Janet Dominy in Hansen, Nebraska. After his discharge, they lived in California for 3 years and moved to Kenesaw, Nebraska and worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Depot in Grand Island until it closed. He then worked at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska until his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, 50 year member of the American Legion, Kenesaw, Nebraska and V.F.W.
Chester Dale Owens was preceded in death by his parents.

Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
