Juniata resident Chuck Kober, 76, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home, Kearney, NE.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 11, Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating. Burial with military rites by Juniata American Legion Post 365 will be at Juniata Cemetery in Juniata. A book signing will be 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, and one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. Chuck was born August 28, 1947, in Hastings, NE to Richard C. Kober, Sr. and Mary (Menard) Kober. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1965 and attended Kearney State College. Chuck married Lorna Melgaard on December 27, 1968 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Chuck served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam in 1971-72. He worked in retail management with the Wheelers/Country General farm stores and owned and operated the Sears Dealer store in the Imperial Mall. Chuck spent many years coaching little league baseball in Hastings and Juniata. He was a proud supporter of Adams Central High School athletics as well as the many other activities his children and grandchildren were involved in.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Kober; brother, Dick Kober and sister-in-law, Gert Kober; brother-in-law, Don Vap; and brother-in-law, Kent Rundback.
Survivors include his wife, Lorna Kober of Juniata, NE; son, Kevin Kober of Roseland, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Brian Taylor of Columbia, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Justine Kober of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Kiersten Kober, Lael Taylor, Anja Taylor, Maci Kober and Camden Kober; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Colleen Kober of Hastings, NE; sisters, Jan (Kober) Vap of Sanibel, FL and Mary Kober of Harvard, NE; sister-in-law, Orla Rundback of Ogallala, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.
