Chuck Stickels

Longtime Hastings resident, Chuck Stickels, 69, of 1102 Country Club Dr., died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 21, 2001; 4:00 P.M. at the French Memorial Chapel, Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Private family interment.

Chuck Stickels was born August 1, 1931 in Hastings, Nebraska to Charles O. & Blanchette (Pullen) Stickels. He attended school in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1949 and from Hastings College in 1955. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from September 4, 1952 until June 3, 1954. On January 9, 1953, he married Barbara Dyer in Hastings, Nebraska. They lived in Superior and Holstein, Nebraska where he taught school and coached until1959 when they moved to Hastings. He then began his career as an investment broker. On May 31, 1981, he married Corinne Powers in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro Cathedral and was past president of Lochland Country Club and was active in Hastings College Alumni Association. In 1964, he was inducted into the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics National Basketball Hall of Fame and in 1997 into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.

Chuck Stickels was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters and 1 grandchild.
