Corwin J. 'Hargy' Hargleroad, 94 of Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Thursday, August 29, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Karen Robak officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Corwin J. 'Hargy' Hargleroad was born January 5, 1908 in Furnas County, Nebraska to Robert & Marie (Stethem) Hargleroad. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1926 and began working for A.M. Dutton (which is now Dutton-Lainson). It was during that time, he met Dorothea Gettman. They were married on September 24, 1930 and she preceded him in death . In 1932, he worked for the Fleet Foote Oil Company and Started Hargleroad Transportation in 1933. In 1940, he bought Overland Transport's Iowa Authority and started hauling petroleum products in Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1943. He returned to Hastings, Nebraska and was assigned by the U.S. Manpower Commission to the Naval Ammunition Depot. In 1945, he received his release from the NAD and purchased the Fergus Transfer Company. From 1943 to 1965, he owned and operated Hargleroad Van & Storage Company. He was part owner/operator of H & M Equipment for more than 10 years. He served on the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's Board of Directors. He served on the Hastings City Council, was president of Motor Carriers' Association form 1968-1970. He was president of the United Transporters of Petroleum Products. Hargleroad's conservation efforts on his own farm were recognized in 1951, when he won a soil conservation plaque for the Omaha World Herald. He was a member of First congregational United Church of Christ, American Legion, past director of the four States Irrigation Council, former member of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Jeffrey Lake Development Association. He belonged to numerous Masonic bodies, including Lodge #317, Scottish Rite, Royal and Select Masters-Council No.8, Mt. Nebo Commandry No. 11, Royal Arch masons Chapter No. 21, 32nd Degree Mason, Tehama Temple, The Cabiri and Royal Order of Jesters Court No 152. He was Potentate of the Tehama Temple in 1954. He was an active member of church, serving many years as trustee.
