Cyril Wolfe

Cyril B. 'Cy' Wolfe, 96, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Tuesday, January 27, 2004; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska, with Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Masonic services conducted by Mid-West Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Wolfe was born May 31, 1907 in Smith Center, Kansas to Raymond Guy & Harriet Mabel (Black) Shaw Wolfe. He attended school in Smith Center, Hoxie and graduated from Goodland High School, Goodland, Kansas. He attended Washburn University. He was employed with family-owned newspapers in Peabody and Goodland, Kansas and commercial printing in Topeka, Kansas. On June 8, 1929, he married Dorothy A. VanOrman at her mother's home in Topeka. She preceded him in death on February 21, 1993. After employment in Laramie, Wyoming, the family moved to Oberlin, Kansas where he was a Linotype operator and machinist. He moved to Norton, Kansas and worked for the Norton paper. In July, 1942, the family moved to Hastings where he was employed with the Hastings Daily Tribune from July 5, 1942 until his retirement January 2, 1971. While there he was Linotype machinist and Mechanical Superintendent from 1948 until retirement. Cy and Dorothy moved to Good Samaritan Village in 1980. Later, Cy moved to the Kensington. Cy was involved in music, playing the violin, trumpet, organ and singing. Cy and Dorothy celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversary at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Brass Choir. He was a member of the Golden Age Entertainers; charter member of the Maverick Band, a 50 year member of Mid-West Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M., Tehama Shrine, past member of Toastmasters and charter member and first president of the Hastings Amateur Radio Club. He was a past adult Sunday School teacher, usher and a member of the Methodist Men and also a Bible Study group. He was a past civil defense director for Adams County, Nebraska.

Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, a brother, Wallace, a sister, Nadine Lucas and an infant brother.
