Trumbull resident, Dale Bieck, 90, died peacefully with all his children at his side, Tuesday June 3, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Thursday, June 5, 2014; 7:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Father Mike McDermott officiating. Funeral Service will be Friday, June 6, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Ramon Decaen officiating. Burial with military rites by Juniata American Legion Post #365 will be in Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2014; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given to the Dale E. Bieck Memorial Fund.
Dale was born June 18, 1923 at Harvard, Nebraska to Edmund G. & Clara M. (Frank) Bieck. He graduated from Harvard High School in 1941. Dale farmed and on March 5, 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army. His basic training stations were, Camp Callan, Torrey Pines, California; Camp Irwin (Mojave Anti-Aircraft Range) Barstow, California and Camp Haan (Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft Replacement Training Center) Torrey Pines, California. His unit was the 798th AAA BN (Anti-Aircraft Battalion). Dale was an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Crewman 601 in Rhineland, Central Europe. Following basic training in California, Dale spent 3 months in England before moving to Camp Lucky Strike, a staging area in Lahoy, France. The 798th quickly moved through Nancy, France and crossed the Rhine River near Worms. They moved west through Darmstadt, Nuremburg, Munich, and the war ended as they reached the Eagles Nest in Salzburg, Austria. The 798th guarded political prisoners after the war. Dale was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946. After the war Dale returned to the area and farmed again. He married Carleen R. Rader on January 2, 1951andshe preceded him in death on January 13, 2008. Dale was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed playing cards at the Sugar Shack in Trumbull at 6 A.M. and 3 P.M.
Dale E. Bieck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carleen R. Bieck; infant son, Douglas Dale Bieck; granddaughter, Haley Keenportz; brothers, Kenneth Bieck, Ivan Bieck, Wayne Bieck; and sister, Lizzetta Dieken.
