Hastings resident, Dale L. Schroeder, 86, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Mary Lanning Memorial Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday, November 20, 2014; 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 18, 2014; 3:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 19, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
Dale was born August 19, 1928 to Louis & Laura (Paneitz) Schroeder at Bradshaw, Nebraska. At a young age his family moved to Deshler, Nebraska. In 1941, when Dale was 13 years old, his family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. There he attended Zion Parochial School and graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. Dale was called to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served from 1950 to 1952 in the 47th Engineer Camouflage Battalion at Ft. Riley, Kansas. On August 5, 1951 he married the love of his life, Leola "Lee" Krueger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born, David, Steven and Dennis. Dale was employed at the Hastings Tribune for 45 years as a machinist and computer maintenance and operator, retiring in January 1991. Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent many years coaching little league baseball. Dale enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, boating, bowling, dancing, playing cards, and especially loved the time spent with his family and friends at their "lake home" at Harlan County. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Just For Fun Car Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Eagles Club. Dale will be greatly missed by all.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lee Schroeder; parents; son, Dennis; mother and father-in-law, Florence & Ernest Krueger; brother, Duane Schroeder; sister-in-law, Mary Hongsermeier; brothers-in-law, Karl Baehr, Dard Dealey and Robert Krueger.
