Darrel Burmood

Hastings resident, Darrel W. Burmood, 77, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, June 9, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings with Rev. Marcus J. Mackay officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9, 2011; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family; a memorial will be established at a later date.

Darrel was born March 12, 1934 in Hastings, Nebraska to Alvin & Gladys (Smith) Burmood. He attended Hastings Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He worked for the Department of Roads for two years and then worked at Johnson Cashway Lumber, Hastings, Nebraska for 39 years. Darrel married June Meyer of Juniata, Nebraska in 1958 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings and they celebrated 52 years of marriage before June's death on August 21, 2010. Darrel was a member at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings, where he served as an usher and trustee. He was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman and carpenter.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; and grandson, Alexander Wayne Burmood.
